This trek reaches its highest point at Gokyo Ri (5,357 meters), offering one of the most spectacular panoramic viewpoints in Nepal, with unforgettable views of Mount Everest, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Makalu, and Ama Dablam. The journey is a perfect blend of natural beauty, high-altitude adventure, and serene mountain landscapes, making it a popular alternative to the classic Everest Base Camp trek. The trek passes through the magnificent landscapes of the Sagarmatha National Park (UNESCO World Heritage Site), where trekkers experience a dramatic transition from lush rhododendron and pine forests to alpine valleys, glacial moraines, and the massive Ngozumpa Glacier, the longest glacier in Nepal. Along the way, you will explore traditional Sherpa villages such as Namche Bazaar, Dole, Machhermo, and Gokyo, where Buddhist culture, prayer flags, and monasteries reflect the deep spiritual heritage of the Himalayas.
Our Gokyo Lake Trek begins in Kathmandu, followed by a scenic flight to Lukla, the gateway to the Everest region. Accommodation is arranged in comfortable mountain teahouses and lodges, offering warm hospitality and basic yet cozy facilities after each trekking day. An experienced licensed trekking guide accompanies you throughout the journey, ensuring safety, navigation, and cultural insights along the trail. The package includes all required permits such as the Sagarmatha National Park entry and Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality fee, allowing you to travel without hassle. Meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) are provided during the trek, keeping you energized in high-altitude conditions, while porters assist with carrying luggage for a more comfortable experience. The itinerary is fully customizable, allowing trekkers to adjust the pace, duration, and route according to their preference. This flexibility makes the Gokyo Lake Trek suitable for both beginners with good fitness and experienced trekkers seeking a quieter, more scenic alternative to Everest Base Camp, offering an unforgettable Himalayan journey filled with lakes, glaciers, and world-class mountain views.

Begin your Gokyo Lake Trek with an early morning scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,860 m), which takes around 30–35 minutes and offers stunning aerial views of the Himalayan mountains. After landing at Lukla and meeting your trekking crew, you will start your trek through the beautiful Dudh Koshi Valley, following a gentle trail that passes through traditional Sherpa villages, suspension bridges, and forested landscapes. The trek from Lukla to Phakding covers approximately 7–8 km and takes around 3–4 hours of easy walking. During this section, you will experience a gradual altitude change, starting from Lukla at 2,860 m and descending to Phakding at 2,610 m, with a net altitude loss of about 250 meters. Upon arrival in Phakding, you will check into your teahouse, relax by the riverside, and prepare for the next day’s climb to Namche Bazaar.
After breakfast in Phakding, you will begin your trek towards Namche Bazaar, the gateway to the Everest region and one of the most important Sherpa towns in the Himalayas. The trail follows the Dudh Koshi River, crossing several suspension bridges, including the famous Hillary Bridge, and passes through beautiful pine forests, small villages, and checkpoints inside Sagarmatha National Park. This is a challenging but rewarding day as the trail includes long ascents after Monjo, gradually gaining altitude as you approach Namche Bazaar. The total trekking distance is approximately 10–12 km, with a trekking time of around 6–7 hours. You will start from Phakding at 2,610 m and ascend to Namche Bazaar at 3,440 m, with a total altitude gain of about 830 meters. Upon arrival, you will settle into your teahouse in Namche and enjoy your first views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks.
Today is an important acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar, designed to help your body adjust to the increasing altitude and ensure a safe and comfortable trek ahead. After breakfast, you will take a short acclimatization hike to higher viewpoints such as the Everest View Hotel (3,880 m) or nearby Khumjung village, where you can enjoy panoramic views of Mount Everest, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and Lhotse. The hike involves gradual ascent and descent, following the “climb high, sleep low” principle, which is essential for proper altitude adaptation. In the afternoon, you will return to Namche Bazaar to rest and explore the vibrant Sherpa town, visit the local market, bakeries, and the Sherpa Culture Museum. There is no long trekking distance today, but light walking of around 3–5 km is recommended for acclimatization. You will stay overnight in Namche Bazaar at 3,440 m, well-rested and prepared for the journey deeper into the Gokyo Valley.
After breakfast in Namche Bazaar, you will leave the main Everest Base Camp trail and enter the quieter and more scenic Gokyo Valley route. The trail initially follows a gentle climb along a beautiful ridge with stunning views of Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and Kangtega, before gradually ascending through pine and rhododendron forests. As you move higher, the landscape becomes more alpine and peaceful, with fewer trekkers and more open mountain scenery. The total trekking distance for the day is approximately 10–11 km, and it takes around 5–6 hours of walking. You will start from Namche Bazaar at 3,440 m and ascend to Dole at 4,200 m, with a total altitude gain of about 760 meters. Upon arrival in Dole, a small Himalayan settlement, you will check into your teahouse, rest, and prepare for the higher altitude sections of the Gokyo Lake Trek ahead.
Today’s trek begins after breakfast in Dole as you continue your journey deeper into the Gokyo Valley. The trail gradually ascends through peaceful alpine terrain, passing yak pastures, traditional stone shelters, and open valleys surrounded by towering Himalayan peaks. As you climb higher, you will enjoy spectacular views of Cho Oyu, Kangtega, and Thamserku, while the landscape becomes more rugged and dramatic with every step. The trekking route covers approximately 6–7 km and takes around 4–5 hours of steady walking. You will start from Dole at 4,200 m and ascend to Machhermo at 4,470 m, with a total altitude gain of about 270 meters. Upon arrival in Machhermo, you will settle into your teahouse, take proper rest, and enjoy the calm mountain atmosphere while preparing for the higher elevations ahead on the way to Gokyo Lake.
After breakfast in Machhermo, you will begin your trek towards the spectacular Gokyo Valley, following a scenic trail that gradually ascends alongside the Ngozumpa Glacier region. The path offers breathtaking views of surrounding peaks such as Cho Oyu, Kangtega, and Thamserku, while the landscape becomes increasingly dramatic with glacial valleys, moraine formations, and wide open alpine scenery. The trek covers approximately 7–8 km and takes around 4–5 hours of steady walking. You will start from Machhermo at 4,470 m and ascend to Gokyo at 4,790 m, with a total altitude gain of about 320 meters. Upon arrival in Gokyo, you will check into your teahouse near the turquoise lakes, relax, and enjoy the peaceful high-altitude environment, preparing for the next day’s exploration of Gokyo Ri and the surrounding lakes.
